Our baskets are hand-woven from palm leaves and come from the Indus Valley region in South Asia, where basket weaving dates back to thousands of years. The Indus River region is known as 'A Cradle of Civilization', and is one of the oldest civilizations known to the world. The baskets are woven by wrapping dyed palm leaves over a coiled bundle of river grass. These are very fine “Continuous Stitch” coil baskets, where a stitch to the previous coil is done at every wrap of the palm leaf around the grass coil. Depending on the size, fineness, and design, one basket can take many days or even weeks to weave.
